Message in a bottle

Last year, a student from a high school in Florida put a message in a bottle as part of a marine science experiment and launched it into the Atlantic Ocean. That was April, 2009 – sixteen months and thousands of miles later, a 17-year-old boy and his father walking on a beach found that bottle, which had washed up on a beach in Kilbaha, Ireland. In accordance with the message inside, the father-son team emailed the high school science teacher whose class launched the bottles. The teacher in turn contacted the student, who was now in college. His message had been received and had traveled further than any bottle launched by the science class. Some had been found in Georgia or even as far away as Rhode Island, but not one of them, until now, had made the journey across the Atlantic and landed on foreign shores.

Pretty cool stuff, don’t you think? While definitely not the fastest way to communicate, it definitely did work. Just goes to show you that patience sometimes does pay off. The entire story can be found here.
