Here’s a message from Tim to his dad written in the morning frost.
I was awakened at 1:30 this morning by an ungodly sound. It sounded like dozens of wild dogs (coyotes) or fishers crying, screaming and howling. This went on for about 20 minutes and after making sure that the dogs were definitely inside (although I knew that they were – but middle of the night paranoia took over) and making sure the goats were safe, I laid back down to try to figure out what the noise was. It was suddenly gone but happened again about 20 minutes after that. It was seriously the first time that I thought I should dig out a gun and shoot it out the window to scare whatever the heck was outside away. This morning all animals, here and across the street seem accounted for, so I don’t know what they were doing out there but it was EERIE AND LOUD. Very Halloweenish, very appropriate for the 34 degree temperatures we woke to at 5:30 this morning. You could see the breath of the deer that was just outside our driveway. While we got a thin layer of frost, nothing seems to be damaged, but still I am glad we took the time to be sure yesterday.
